My kids have been after me all summer to make slime with them. It is, apparently, the thing to do when you’re six years old. This mama does not DIY well. Yes, I know I have a DIY section on my blog, but it is not vast if you keep clicking. It’s just not really my thing. Everyone has theirs, and DIY is only sometimes mine. All that said, when your kids want to do a project with you, you put on your big girl panties and do the project. Even if it is slime.

DIY Halloween Slime

Our slime making foray began with preparation. I was fully prepping myself to be the best slime-maker ever, gosh darn it, and I wasn’t going to be able to wing it. After lots of online research, I finally came up with a mixture of a few recipes I thought would turn out to be the best. Here’s what you’ll need to make you own DIY Halloween Slime.DIY Halloween Slime Recipe

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 tsp of Borax
  • 1/2 cup room temperature water
  • 1 5-6oz bottle glue (clear or white, your choice)
  • Glitter (optional)
  • Confetti (optional)Step 1

Step 1

Mix 1 cup hot water with 1/2 tsp of Borax in a bowl or measuring cup. Stir well until dissolved. Let this mixture come to room temperature.DIY Halloween Slime Recipe

Step 2

Empty glue into a separate bowl. Mix in 1/2 cup of plain water. I recommend a whisk on this one as the glue is still a bit sticky and may stick to spatulas or other mixing devices. This is also where you add in glitter and/or confetti if you are so inclined.DIY Halloween Slime Recipe

Step 3

Stir the Borax/water mixture into the bowl of glue/water. As you see the slime beginning to form, begin kneading and squishing the two mixtures together. If your slime is not setting up correctly, allow it to sit for 30 seconds to 1 minute before kneading and squishing again.

Helpful Hints

After making slime four times last weekend, I finally figured out some pro tips that should be included with every slime making recipe. I appreciate the great folks of the internet for sharing their recipes, but, y’all. Be more specific! Give extra hints! Tell us what went wrong (or right)! There wasn’t nearly enough info out there about what to do if it was too sticky or too wet.DIY Halloween Slime Recipe Here are my best tips:

  • DO NOT dump the entire Borax/water mixture into the glue/water. Pouring a little at a time will ensure you get the right ratio for your slime.
  • Borax is a chemical, so make sure you wash your hands after coming in contact with it (it can cause a drying effect).
  • If the slime is too sticky, add more Borax/water mixture to the glue/water.
  • If the slime is too watery, pour off the excess water and allow it to sit for a minute or two before kneading it together again.
