Have you ever wanted to disconnect? Or head out to the woods for some much-needed serenity? That’s precisely what prompted Jon Staff and Pete Davis to found their company, Getaway, in 2015.
In late 2024, the company was purchased by Marriott International, and the new name became Postcard Cabins. Postcard Cabins are located near Dallas, Raleigh, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Charlotte, and more. According to their website, it is “not just for rest and rejuvenation but to foster inspiration, creativity, and connection.”
I was recently invited to stay in one of their two-person tiny cabins, and, though the break from being connected was tough, it was refreshing in a way that I hadn’t experienced in a very long time. I’m not a camping person, but Postcard Cabins are so much more than “just camping.” It was about spending time together and having meaningful experiences, both of which were sorely needed.
What to Know About Postcard Cabins Talladega Valley

Postcard Cabin locations were designed with nature in mind. They are off the beaten path and somewhat remote and offer visitors a chance to get away and relax. These cabins are great for a solo trip, but they can also be a unique bonding experience for couples or a small group. Book a cabin with an outdoor suite or not labeled as “forest view” if you want water views of the Coosa River.
The tiny cabins typically fit two people, but some have queen bunk beds that will sleep up to four. Postcard Cabins Talladega Valley is located off Highway 280 in Childersburg, Alabama, and it feels like you’re driving out to the middle of nowhere when you begin your journey. The whole process is an intentional way to set guests up for a night of solitude. It is about an hour drive from the city of Birmingham, and a little over two hours from the Atlanta area.
Included in Postcard Cabin Stays

A stay at Postcard Cabins Talladega Valley includes “everything you need and nothing you don’t” if you want to experience a weekend of the basics. Cooking essentials such as pots and pans, utensils, salt, pepper, olive oil, plates, paper towels, trash bags, sponges, and towels are included, making it easy to prepare your favorite meals. For a small fee, Postcard Cabins also offer coffee, tea, hot cocoa, hot cider, firewood for the fire pit and cooking s’mores, and insect repellent.
Other amenities included are a shower, toilet, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, sheets, comforter, bath towels, and toilet paper. The queen bed will already be made with fresh bedsheets and comfy pillows. A picnic table is included with every campsite. Classic cabins with outdoor suites include a food prep station near the fire pit, additional outdoor lighting, and a hammock.
What to Bring to a Postcard Cabin
If you don’t want to make extra purchases at the cabin, consider bringing supplies from home. Several grocery stores are on the way to the cabins in Childersburg, so it would be easy to stop for food, drinks, firewood, coffee-making supplies, and anything else you might need. You’ll only be a few miles from town if you need to restock anything.
The cell service is spotty, which is purposeful, so if you want to watch a show or movie while you’re away, I recommend that you download it before you arrive. Recently, as of late 2024, the cabins have added Wifi, and I’m not sure that fits the relaxation vibe. However, I can understand if you are a working while staying in the cabin for a break from office life, it makes sense to have Wifi available.
Guests can purchase their own fire-starting items and bring them from home on their visit if they want to enjoy campfire cooking. There is a grill grate, but not an actual grill, so leave the propane at home.
What Not to Bring to a Postcard Cabin
Packing for a short vacation can be confusing. Should you pack warm or cool clothes? Do you need more than one pair of shoes? What about toiletries? These are common guest questions that are answered efficiently by visiting the website of your nearest Postcard Cabins location.
From personal experience, Postcard Cabins Talladega Valley are designed to be minimal and private, so don’t feel as if you must dress for any specific occasion unless you want to. No hairdryers are provided, so one might be needed if that is something you can’t live without. However, I would leave any styling tools or makeup at home (or in your vehicle, at least). The cabins are small on space, so anything unnecessary might be a trip hazard or make the space feel cramped.
Postcard Cabins Talladega Valley FAQs
Wondering what it’s like to stay in a Postcard Cabin? Here are some of the most frequently asked questions with answers:
Are the cabins private?
Yes, to an extent. If you are planning a stay in the winter, leaves will likely not be on the trees, which means you may be able to see some parts of a nearby campsite or your neighbors may be able to see you. However, there are shades on the main large window and smaller windows for extra privacy as needed.
Is there really no Wifi?
Well, there was really no Wifi at one time. During a visit in late 2024, I stayed in a cabin that had it added, so I assume every cabin now has Wifi. You are not without a landline for emergencies if you need it (it’s right by your bedside for added convenience).
Do the Postcard Cabin locations have running water?
Absolutely! Not only do they have running water, you can also take a hot shower in the private bathroom. The hot water tank takes time to fill up between uses, so don’t be in a rush to get ready. The cabins all have electricity, AC, and heat.
Can a tent be used outside the cabin?
Postcard Cabins are intended for guests to experience tranquility and solitude, so it doesn’t allow tents with extra guests or loud music at the campsites. The campsites are expansive enough to fit a car or two and the tiny cabin itself.
Where is my nearest outpost?
Postcard Cabins has over 30 outposts around the country and is still growing. Visit the website to find the one nearest you. Other than Talladega Valley, my next closest location is in Chattanooga. There are also locations in cities such as Chicago, San Antonio, Pittsburgh, Houston, Boston, Austin, and Cleveland.
